Since the development of this site I have been fighting with the notion of how I can best prioritize these
books. Many of my readers have asked for more direction on where to start and which book to read first.
My solution to the above dilemma is the Reading For Your Success “Success Rating” system. This is my
first attempt at prioritizing these books based on the potential and realized success that I and others have
experienced as a result of reading them. Please keep in mind that this is a difficult task, especially when
one considers that I have only chosen top books to include on my site (I read many more books than I
post) and different people should read them for different reasons. Well here is my best shot at it. Below is
a list of factors considered when deciding the success rating of each book. The scale ranges from one to
five with five being the highest.
Some of the criteria I used in rating these books:
• How big is the effect on one’s overall life vs. specific areas such as business, relationships, etc?
• The author’s method and style of getting points across.
• Is it easy to grasp? Is it an enjoyable read? Will I be encouraged to read other works by the same author?
• Theory vs. real life and actionable examples.
• How well the reader can relate to the book’s ideas and examples.
The Success Rating System:
Five (5): This is the highest rating. This book absolutely nailed it. It directly relates to the overall success
of your life. It provides universal principals that can be applied to all areas of your life. This book was
written to inspire action. It has had a significant, positive and definitive effect on the success of my life.
Four (4): This book relates to the success in one area of your life. It is just as powerful as a book that
ranks at a five, but this book only relates to one topic. This book has had a significant positive effect on
the success of that area in my life. It is easily understood and actionable. This book brings to life
previously nonexistent thought and opportunity.
Three (3): This book is similar to that of a four rating, but the concepts and thoughts are a bit harder to
grasp. The material is extremely valuable but is not conveyed in as friendly or understandable of a
manner. The concepts are not as immediately actionable. This book is better for knowledge improvement.
Two (2): This book has valuable concepts but they are not as crucial as those rated five through three.
This book is more for those of you who have extra time or who put extensive reading at the top of your list
of priorities (as I hope all of you do by this point).
One (1): This book has valuable concepts, although the topics are harder to grasp, they are more abstract
and less main stream. You will not see many one ratings on my site.
With so many books out there, I know it can be overwhelming at times. I hope these ratings help you
decide how to best prioritize the books you plan on Reading For Your Success. If you are still unsure then
as always, please contact us for any questions or comments. I thoroughly enjoy hearing from and
responding to my fellow readers.
Happy Reading,
