What Should I Read?

Tell us your goals and what type of success you are striving for we will tell you what to read to get you there.

Many readers come to Reading For Your Success with one question:

“out of all the hundreds and thousands of possible books out there, which one do I choose given my goals for success?”

People sometimes get overwhelmed with where to start. Especially with how long it can take to read a book and with more and more being published each day.

Well we are here to do our best to answer that question for you. Even though we are very selective with which books we review and recommend in our posts, we have read hundreds of books on all subjects of success.

I personally try to read a couple books a week. My point is that I am confident that if you explain your life situation and goals for success, I believe we can recommend a book that will get you started on the right track.

Just send me an email or better yet leave a comment below and we will get back to you within the next day or so (if not much sooner). The more people who can read about others’ goals and the books we recommend for them, the more valuable ReadingForYourSuccess will be for all of us. So please leave a comment and tells where you are in life and what your aspirations are for success. I know there’s a book out there just for your situation!

Happy Reading,

~Scott

Thank you so much for you comment and interest Anisha. And congratulations on your new responsibility!! How exciting. I would be happy to recommend some books if you give me a little more clarity on which life areas you’d like to focus. Based on your email and comments I have a few initial suggestions.

1. Quadruple Your Productivity and Enjoy a Little Life: 8 Steps to Getting Things Done (http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/quadruple-your-productivity-and-enjoy-a-little-life-6-steps-to-getting-things-done)

This is a very useful book and I summarized what I think are some simple productivity practices.

2. The 4 Hour Work Week. An inspiration and motivator on so many levels. Has had the biggest effect on my life yet. http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/escape-9-5-live-anywhere-outsource-your-life-and-join-the-new-rich-updated-4-hour-work-week

3. The 80/20 Principle. Very powerful time management and life enjoyment principles. I did an interview with the author as well.

Living the 80/20 Life: 5 Ways to Achieve More with Less (http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/living-the-8020-life-5-ways-to-achieve-more-with-less)

Author Interview: http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/guidance-from-the-father-of-living-an-8020-life-an-interview-with-richard-koch

4. And if you want some guidance to reading all these books faster and more effectively: http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/6-quick-steps-to-finishing-a-non-fiction-book-in-half-the-time-while-retaining-twice-as-much

A reader just emailed me a question and I wanted to share it with all of you just in case you’re in a similar situation. Enjoy!

From Reader:

Hey Scott,

I found your site through Scott Young’s blog, which I’ve been reading for over a year. I really dig your site, and how you’ve combined book reviews with smart advice told in a gripping and effective style. What would you recommend to a 23-year-old who just graduated from college, book-related or otherwise? My primary goal at the moment is to establish my financial independence through creative pursuits, such as writing (I’m currently ghostwriting a personal development book and doing freelance article writing) and music (I am starting a drum teaching practice).

My response:

That’s awesome. I am happy to help. What a great spot to be. Scott is an inspiration as well.

Top recommendations:

The 4-Hour Work Week– Tim Ferriss is brilliant and will inspire you to take action. Go through is new version and be open to trying the stuff he says! It will have a dramatic effect.
http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/escape-9-5-live-anywhere-outsource-your-life-and-join-the-new-rich-updated-4-hour-work-week

Strengths Finder 2.0– The test that comes with this book is amazing. Will tell you your top 5 natural strengths and how they best apply to possible careers and life in general as well as how you can use them to add value to society. This stuff is so powerful. http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/discover-the-top-5-strengths-that-make-you-personally-excel-strengths-finder-2-0

Start with those and go through them with some intent and have fun at the same time.

An article I recently wrote that covers your current situation in much more depth is The Beginner’s Guide to Being Congruent. It has a link to my Strength Finder review and a ton of other take action resources. http://www.readingforyoursuccess.com/the-beginners-guide-to-being-congruent

Also if you are getting serious about writing and blogging, then The A-List Bloggers Club is a priceless resource for $20/mo. I’ve been a member for a while now. They should charge a lot more. http://www.alistbloggingbootcamps.com/

The key to writing is to just start doing it! Ghostwriting is a start but you want to get your name on some things. A blog is a great way to do it and they are super easy to start. That is why I first created RFYS…to write and to share my ideas for others. It’s been perfect for that and much more!

Let me know how it goes and have a blast with the process!

Scott

Thanks for responding so quickly to my email Scott. After reading 4HWW i’ve been consumed with trying to quit my job and start something of my own. I know some tools that I lack are knowledge of website design and where/how to start a site of my own. How did you get your start in making this site? The ideas of that book seem simple but I still felt like they are a little over my head, like the idea of putting your idea out first to see if there is a demand for, this makes perfect sense but the tools that Ferriss mentions using to do this are pretty foreign to me and the actual doing seems a bit daunting. Where can I go to get advice tailored to me and my ideas? Oh yea, and how can I get some good ideas?!

Your site is a regular read for me
Thanks again
